Weald Editor

Over 500 runners took on the hilly Ashdown Forest course, raising more than £45,000 for local mental health charities.

The third annual Ashdown Forest Half Marathon attracted a record field of 523 runners, joggers and walkers, who between them raised more than £45,000 for two local mental health charities.

The challenging 13.1-mile course winds through some of the most scenic parts of the forest, including the famous Pooh Sticks Bridge and the enchanting Gill's Lap viewpoint. Despite muddy conditions underfoot, spirits were high throughout the event.

Race director Tom Keating said: "The community spirit was incredible. We had marshals from six different villages, cakes donated by local WI groups, and a fantastic atmosphere at the finish line in the Forest Centre car park."
